　　The cylinder is composed of a cylinder barrel, end caps, piston, piston rod, and seals, etc., and its internal structure is shown in the figure:

　　1) Cylinder barrel

　　The inner diameter of the cylinder barrel represents the size of the cylinder's output force. The piston should move smoothly back and forth in the cylinder barrel, and the surface roughness of the inner surface of the industrial cylinder barrel should reach Ra0.8μm.

　　SMC, CM2 cylinder pistons use combined sealing rings to achieve double-sided sealing; the piston and piston rod are connected by press-fitting, without nuts.

　　2) End caps

　　The end caps have air inlet and outlet ports; some also have a buffer mechanism inside the end caps. The rod-side end cap has a sealing ring and a dust seal to prevent air leakage from the piston rod and prevent external dust from entering the cylinder. The rod-side end cap has a guide bushing to improve the guiding accuracy of the cylinder, bear a small amount of lateral load on the piston rod, reduce the bending amount when the piston rod extends, and extend the service life of the cylinder. The guide bushing usually uses sintered oil-containing alloy or inclined copper castings. End caps used to be made of malleable cast iron; to reduce weight and prevent rust, aluminum alloy die-casting is often used, and miniature cylinders use brass.

　　3) Piston

　　The piston is the pressure-bearing part in the cylinder. To prevent mutual air leakage between the left and right chambers of the piston, a piston sealing ring is provided. The wear ring on the piston can improve the guiding performance of the cylinder, reduce the wear of the piston sealing ring, and reduce friction resistance. Wear rings are made of polyurethane, polytetrafluoroethylene, cloth-reinforced synthetic resin, etc. The width of the piston is determined by the size of the sealing ring and the necessary length of the sliding part. If the sliding part is too short, it will easily cause early wear and seizure. The piston material is usually aluminum alloy and cast iron; small cylinders have pistons made of brass.
